Welcome to the Clinical Research Unit at the Biomedical and Clinical Research Centre, where we are committed to advancing demand driven high-quality clinical research to produce evidence-based results that can be translated into patient care and public health policies. The Centre is dedicated towards participation and coordinating research mainly to improve human health in the College and University. Our work thus spans the design, implementation, evaluation and tracking progress of clinical research across a wide range of health domains, including feasibility studies, ethics reviews, clinical trials and emerging global health threats, amongst others.
The Unit aims to have personnel in specialized teams to drive innovative and impactful research for solutions to medical issues in the following areas
- Communicable & Non-Communicable Diseases – addressing the dual burden of infectious diseases and chronic conditions through integrated research approaches.
- Epidemiology & Community Medicine – investigating disease patterns and prevalence, health determinants, and effective interventions at the community level.
- Family and Mental Health – focusing on family and societal-centered transdisciplinary research strategies to improving the mental well-being of humans.
- Sexual & Reproductive Health – promoting sexual and reproductive well-being through inclusive and rights-based research and interventions.
- Neglected, Rare & Tropical Diseases – revive abandoned and under-researched high-burden diseases affecting vulnerable populations in sub-Saharan Africa through novel diagnostics, treatments, and public health strategies.
- Clinical Trials and Emerging Global Health Treats – developing the landscape and meeting requirements to include Ghanaian participants in Clinical Trials and collaborating with other Centres to tackle emerging health issues.
The Unit will uphold the highest standards of scientific and ethical practice and the multidisciplinary team will leverage standard methodologies, real-world data, and cutting-edge technologies for the transformative and translational research.
Through strategic collaborations with hospitals, academic institutions, pharmaceutical companies, regulatory bodies, and communities, we will translate research results into practice and policy driving meaningful change in health systems.
The Clinical Research Unit at the Biomedical and Clinical Research Centre will be a hub of excellence that will transform healthcare in Ghana and sub-Saharan Africa.
